Deb's eagle eye spotted some trumpeter swans just after the bridge. They were pretty far away, but I was excited because I've never seen a swan in the wild. We also saw a lot of ducks and ducklings on the many lakes. The highway is supposed to be a big attraction for birders, and I can see why. Even I was impressed with the variety of birds we saw!
We started calling Alaska "Land of Many Rainbows." At least there's an upside to all the rain. The other upside is that it seems to have made a dent in the forest fires. They lifted the campfire ban along the Denali Highway while we were there.
