our chariot

Another beautiful day! The park is so big that you have to fly in to the backcountry. There's a special provision of the Wilderness Act, which prohibits mechanized transportation in wilderness areas, that acknowledges that Alaska is so big that you kinda gotta allow planes in those areas if you want them to be used, so planes are allowed to land anywhere in the backcountry that they can safely land. In practice, they don't (can't) land most places, so even with a plane, you have somewhat limited access. Helicopters aren't allowed to land at all.

This is the plane that dropped us off, waiting to leave McCarthy.
