The scenery on the McCarthy Road isn't as stunning as that on some of the other Alaskan roads (so why are we driving it on a sunny day???), but it was still pleasant. And in the Alaskan tradition, instead of trash along the road (really, there's none on any of the roads), there are spontaneous acts of creative interaction. In a large pullout area along the road, there's a collection of cairns that I assume have been built by many different travelers over time. It's quite a surprise to come up on it out of nowhere. The pictures make it look more sparse than it feels. There's a larger picture here.
