traversing

On Thursday, we finished our climb up the mountain and then traversed it. Climbing up is much sweatier, but traversing is murder on the ankles because the slope is fairly steep in places. The rocky areas like what you see in this picture are like fingers of rockslide that extend down the mountain, so we would cross some nice (if lumpy and steep) meadow, and then a finger of rock. The rock is big enough that it's awkward to move around on, but it does give your ankles a nice break from the slope. I expected it to be much more scree, with loose, shifting rock; in fact, it's mostly good sized boulders that are quite stable. The difficulty is mostly in walking on a very uneven surface.
